Since the establishment of the firm in 1939, S. Friedman & Co. (originally known as Jacob S. Shapiro & Co.) has been one of Israel’s most distinguished law firms, and at the forefront of the development of Israel’s legal community and jurisprudence. In 1948, with the establishment of the State of Israel, Mr. Shapiro left the firm to become Israel’s first Attorney General (and later also the Minister of Justice). The firm led by Shapiro engaged, among others, in matters related to underground organizations and clandestine immigration. Upon Advocate Shapiro's departure to public service, the late Shlomo (Solly) Friedman led the firm until his retirement in the early 1980s, and the firm bears his name. Over the years the firm has grown and become one of Israel’s largest law firms, and it currently employs approximately 66 legal professionals (partners, associates and articled clerks) in three locations: Tel Aviv, Haifa, and Raanana. The expansion of the firm improved its ability to provide professional, comprehensive and dedicated services to its clients.

In an era of increased globalization, of rapid technological and geopolitical changes, the firm maintains a long-established international practice. We work closely with professional correspondents in financial, technological, maritime and commercial centers in the United States, Europe, Asia and Africa. Many of these correspondents have been working in cooperation with the firm for many years, a relationship which contributes to a mutually fruitful interchange. We represent and advise our clients in a full range of activities within Israel and abroad. The firm provides legal advice to several of Israel’s largest enterprises with global operations. In addition, the firm also advises and handles premium private clients and Israeli corporations of all types, including companies, partnerships, cooperatives, non-profit organizations, associations, local authorities, public institutions, academic institutions and more. Legal advice is provided in Israel and abroad, and is effective and valuable due to the firm's ability to provide a professional response in a variety of areas of the clients' activities using the one-stop-shop method. As a direct reflection of Israel's increasing integration in the global economy, the firm also works for enterprises and international financial institutions, assisting them in entering the Israeli market and advising their local operations thereafter. The office staff, throughout its various departments, works cooperatively and therefore our clients enjoy comprehensive and continuous legal advice. The firm's broad scope of practice enables us to tailor our services to the unique requirements and needs of each client.

Several members of the firm acquired their education in the United States and in Europe. Some of them were admitted to practice law there and practiced at leading law firms in these countries. Most of the firm's members are fluent in English and the majority of the work is done in this language.
