Overview

Since the firm’s establishment in 1939, S. Friedman & Co. (originally known as Jacob S. Shapiro & Co.) has been one of Israel’s most distinguished law firms at the forefront of the development of Israel’s legal community and jurisprudence. In 1948, with the establishment of the State of Israel, Mr. Shapiro left the firm to become Israel’s first Attorney General (later Minister of Justice). From that point on and until his retirement in the early 1980s, the firm was led by The late Solly Friedman. Over the years the firm has grown to be one of Israel’s largest law firms, with some 60 legal professionals (partners, associates and articled clerks) based in its offices in Tel Aviv and Haifa, while remaining committed to providing professional and dedicated service to its clients and maintaining its reputation for absolute integrity.

In an era of increased globalization, rapid technological and geopolitical change, we have a long-established international practice. We work closely with correspondents in the financial, technological, maritime and trade centers in the United States, Europe, Asia and Africa. We represent and advise our clients in a full range of activities within Israel and internationally. We provide efficient, value-added “one stop” legal services as “outside in-house” counsel to some of Israel’s largest multi-national enterprises with global operations. As a direct reflection of Israel’s growing integration into the world economy we also act for multinational enterprises and financial institutions, assisting them with their entry into the Israeli market and advising their local operations thereafter. We embrace a multi-disciplinary team approach towards counseling our clients, maximizing our ability to provide our clients with integrated, seamless and cost efficient advice and services. The broad scope of our practice allows us to tailor our services to suit the unique requirements and interests of each client.

Several members of the firm have been educated in the United States and Europe. Some of them are admitted to practice law in the United States and England and have practiced at leading law firms in these countries. The firm’s members are fluent in English and some are also competent in other languages.
